about wetdryvac
http://www.wetdryvac.netI'm a helping friendly vac. I create art, solve computer problems, and set inconsequential things on fire so I can take pictures of 'em.
Experience tells me: Wetdryvacs burn pretty well.

- in It all comes down to money, doesn't it?, wetdryvac says:
With the new bankruptcy laws in effect in the states, get volunteer credit counselling - it's no longer easy to file for bankruptcy. That said, if you're willing to take the credit blemish and can jump through the hoops, bankruptcy is a valid option.
The one thing _not_ to do is to go with a debt consolidation firm that doesn't accept rapid pay-off. It's becoming much more common to see debt consolidations with long term payments without allowance for direct payment towards principal - signing such a contract is financial suicide. It's also unethical as hell on the part of the predators claiming to counsel for credit and instead maximizing their own profit.Aug 11, 2006 01:51 AM - in handling telemarketing calls, wetdryvac says:
Having done this as a job, the very worst thing anyone can do to a telemarketer is to keep them on the line as long as possible without buying anything or accepting services. When it becomes clear the telemarketer is on the verge of hanging up on you, that's the time to first walk them through the process of getting removed from their call list - which they're legally required to listen to and do - and then explain precisely why you've done what you've done.
In my case, it's because I'm actively trying to cost these firms - nearly always predatory and ethically vile - as much money as possible.
For variation, I try to sell them things - usually my own artwork - and having telemarketing experience, I've been able to land sales this way, thus rendering me, I suppose, even more predatory than them, though far less ethically vile.
If it's a machine, I'll just set the phone next to the microwave and boil some water - thus not triggering voice recognition software (a verbal yes as misinterpreted by software = a purchase in some rare cases) and keeping the line in use because there's sound.
I suppose it might be said I have something of a vendetta against the whole of the telemarketing process.Aug 11, 2006 01:45 AM - in Girl and Boy at work, wetdryvac says:
"You two, every time I put you together to work, your productivity drops. I'd like to make you happy, but it's loosing money/time/whatever. Do you have any suggestions?"
And then list options. Separation may not actually be the best option, but it's the easiest in my book - however, if they can control themselves, efficient teams are often composed of close together types.Aug 11, 2006 01:22 AM - (show all)
