Don't drive on ice if you don't have to.
If you do:
Do some test-braking at low speed before you've gone a block. Get a feel for how bad it is If you completely lose control, give up.
Don't spin your wheels at high speed if you have trouble accelerating. Many people do this thinking it helps, but it actually makes it worse and polishes up the ice for everyone else. Slower wheels have more traction. Same goes for if your car gets stuck.
* Start braking really really really early. 4-Wheel/All-Wheel drive is nice for acceleration and maneuvering, but they don't help you stop. Everyone has 4-wheel brakes.
