  • in moving to New York from Providence, lmanders says:

Having lived in the "great" state of Rhode Island for the last several years (and New York last summer) my advice can only be that Providence grows on you even if it never grabs your heart, school doesn't last forever but its easier to finish if you don't go all nomadic, and New York can seem great but living there is very, very hard.

Wow, this is why we needed the other opinion--I had no idea that opinion would skew so strongly toward option 1. It will be better for all to do it that way. Mille grazie.

Roommates, to me, in American speak are people one rents a home-environment with--we're renting a house--without nuancing it to mean someone one shares a room with. When I lived in Scotland I had flatmates, a term which I prefer, but people make fun of me if I use it in these parts.

  • in The Meaning of Life, lmanders says:

Actually, I think I've found the meaning of 42 and I've wanted to share it for years. I saw it one day on the #42 bus in Providence, RI. The bus has a scrolling screen that says "Providence via Hope" and it all clicked for me. That's the answer. Salvation/heaven/paradise/whatever-you-want by means of hope. There you go.
