    Hi inafish,

That is a great idea about the generic gifts stocking up! Do you have an equally good ideas about how to deal with saying 'no' to my aunt on unwanted gifts?

littlewolf: Thank you! So the 'American' latte would be like a Latte Macchiato here (or in Italy). That's great, because I love that, and so I'll be able to order some when I get to the UK next :-)!

I've been meaning to ask this for a long time: What exactly is a latte? Does it correspond more to a caffèlatte (which in Germany is usually served in a large coffee mug and consists of regular coffee topped with steamed milk) or to a Latte Macchiato (served in a tall glass, ideally consisting of three layers: hot milk, hot milk with espresso and foamy milk, but often like a cappuccino with a lot of milk)?

    Excuse my European ignorance ...

I agree with alex. Normally, guests bring gifts, hosts provide food and drink. If you don't have a good gift, you might want to consider picking up the check, though.

  • in the point of marriage, inafish says:

Although I'm married myself, I actually believe that you don't necessarily have to be to have a good, happy and healthy long-term relationship. However, when your perfect significant other (and best friend) is someone you really really want to spent the rest of your life with, and that person goes down on their knees and asks you to marry them, it's kinda hard to say no :-)!

I voted for 2, because that comes closest to how I feel about weddings and marriage. Not absolutely necessary, but extremely romantic and a great excuse to have the party of your life. If you're into that sort of thing.
