But.
Whether or not you can trust them ever again, fully trust them, is the even bigger question. I know myself. If someone cheated on me, no matter how it happened, I would never be able to fully trust them again. Everyone's gotta make up their own mind though, and it's not an easy problem to solve. I dunno much about rheumatic fever but I do have mitral valve prolapse (a heart murmur according to my dentist... whatever), and the antibiotics before all dental work thing is no longer recommended by the American Heart Association due to the possibility of creating more antibiotic-resistant bugs. Get a second opinion. Plus, can you really be too old to get something? (honestly curious)
