Here's a thunk - I wonder if it has anything to do with how you are brought up? In societies where they subscribe to this idea, people do have nightmares after eating cheese/ chocolates/ aubergines/ gummi bears. In societies where this concept has never occured to anyone, they don't. Demographic break downs required.
After all, in societies (families rather - I reckon, this is family-bound) where the idea is not contained in local folklore it might _still_ happen - if that were the case, maybe noone would mention it for fear of being found out for being weird?
