dear internet,
I bought a MacBook Pro in April, which had problems and was changed for MacBook Pro 2 in May, which had problems and was changed for MacBook Pro 3 in June... which had problems and had Macsurgery and was still changed for MacBook Pro 4 yesterday.
I have 13 days in which I can get a refund. Should I give up and get the refund? All the MacBook Pro's have had several problems, sound, power issues etc. But my last Mac lasted ten years (in the end, I outgrew it), and my ipod has lasted nearly four years.
My sister and cousin have Toshiba, but their laptops are crash-prone. At this point I just want something that lasts the week! And no, I really don't need the graphics.
Advise please, and reasons for and against.

I have a Sony Vaio that has served me well and faithfully for many a year, and so have a large number of friends and acquaintances (lots of different models, all working well). I'd recommend it, but I know lots of people don't like Sony for some reason.
you scared me. i just bought a MacBook (not Pro) and I'm currently waiting for it to arrive. everybody tells me they don't have so many problems as pc computers, and that's one of the main reasons i choose it, but if it does have any problems, it will be pretty difficult to fix it here in brazil...
After watching my mates abuse their goods no end I can conclude that two years ago the IBM laptops were a fantastic buy... Whether that's still the case I don't know - but people assure me that in terms of build quality and reliability they rock.
I bought a Dell and thankfully never had problems with it - the support at Dell is atrocious - so if it is _you_ who has troubles with computers - stay away from Dell
I've had Toshibas, Vaio, and this is a Compaq, the Toshibas were fantastic
Elapheg: I choose Sony Vaio for my first pc - only I don't think it liked me very much becuase it crashed 14 times in the first five days... sigh
Solitaryascidian: I tried telling you! But truly, I am sure you and MacBook will have a long and happy life together. I think MacBook is actually more reliable than MacBook Pro (on authority from the among the very highest Apple echelons)
Yuri: I did have a Dell. Whilst the warranty endured, Dell support were really helpful to me; but dellbaby became unhappy with my frequent travels to areas with voltage fluctuations, and electrocuted me (and 20GB flash drive) via the USB port, although it might've simply been replicating my mood at the time ... hmmm, littlewolf and mysterious laptop occurences, maybe I should see if they coincide with the full moon... I also have a friend who worked at IBM and she spent part of today telling me IBM horror stories. But I think that, in general, the quality of almost all electrical devices, be they laptop or fridge etc, have deteriorated.
Victorix: At last, one person pro Toshiba! But you are not crazy about your Compaq, no? Hmmm, at this point I am unsure whether I should go the whole hog and try Linux...
Thanks for the comments so far, I really do appreciate the help!
I have a macbook pro, and haven't had problems with it thusfar, but I might just be lucky. I was vary wary about getting the macbook pro since it is a new mac that hasn't had a chance to be tested by the public. You might try, if you still have problems with it, getting a plain macbook, but otherwise I'd say stick it out, in general macs work better than windows machines, at least that's my experience.
I'm a MAC fan since relative childhood so perhaps I don't really have very objective view of the issue at hand and I have never handled a MacBook specifically but I can tell you all this: the only real problem I have with my various macs are backward compatibillity. My various PCs on the other hand ... another matter all together grinding teeth in rememberance
fiercenailbunny and Ambraai, thanks for the comments, they are really helpful. Other than those who say I am a freak (an opinion with which I freely concur), almost everyone I know is saying to go with Mac. Two more plus points in Mac's favour is that if I buy an ipod at the same time, I get a £100 back, and a simultaneous printer purchase (yes, printer has also recently died - freakoid extraordinaire) is another £60 back ... so, yes, possibly will stick to the Mac (BOTH my demons and angels yelling me down at this point; they appear to be in rare agreement - hmmm, very weird)
