Dear Internet,
I find myself utterly confounded by a certain set of relatives. An aunt and uncle and their daughter, my cousin, to be somewhat more exact. Without going into excruciating detail, here's the problem: said uncle's been diagnosed with a form of liver cancer. Even though he's doing better (long story), no one's told my cousin. My aunt has numerous serious health problems, many of which have been played down to my cousin, if she's been told at all. Apparently they don't want to upset her or cause problems with school (I believe she's going for her phd now...).
They live kinda far away and I don't keep that closely in touch with them. Given that, I don't feel I have the right to barge in and tell her everything anymore than I have the right to tell my aunt and uncle how to conduct their family affairs. But nothing about this feels right, period. Someday she's going to find out how much they've kept from her or waited till after the fact to tell her. And it's going to really cause a lot of hurt. What do ya'll think?
Sincerely,
Magpie
