dear internet,
i am thinking about trying out for a few plays this weekend that my college is putting on. two are straight shows and one is a musical that apparently you don't need to have an amazing voice for, and i can at least carry a tune. but i'm TERRIFIED at the thought of singing in front of the intimidating crowd that will be at auditions. what should i do?

The best way to get over stage fright is to be on stage. It's like anything eles, the more you do it, the better you get. And the more risks you take, the more comfortable you become at taking risks.
Just by showing up for the auditions, you are ahead of all the folks that chicken out! Sometimes just showing up is the hardest part. Knock 'em dead!
There will probably be somebody worse than you. At the worst people'll not notice. At best they'll think you're a superstar or somesuch.
I believe you can sing better than you think. Your brother had a great voice and he rarely used it. No doubt you can do more than just carry a tune. You just have to go for it. Besides I agree with Lynn, you are better because you just show up when most people would just chicken out. And danb has a point as well, the directors will hear much worse singers than you. Trust me.
Don't be intimidated by the music majors or choir people. Take my word for it some are worse singers than you might think. If you want to be in a show this year then you should try out for as many things as you can. What is the musical this year, by the way?
