That'd be Reinventing Comics. I had that one's central image copied on a t-shirt for my husband, because it looks so cool and because both books have totally changed my outlook on comics.
I had moments with Understanding Comics where I actually had to put the book down and wait for my mind to quit being blown. I marvelled at that book. So much of it was new to me.
I have to say, this book, much like Blue Like Jazz, really changed my way of thinking. It coalesced alot of the notions that had been floating around in my head - especially that comics (and other media, like RPGs and animation) can be as mature and rich as the creator can make them. His exploration of the rich history of comics, even into the stone age, was very edifying to me.
