dear internet,
is it wrong of me to get so DESPERATELY annoyed when people consistently have grammatical errors on various social networking sites? i particularly hate misuse of their/there/they're and passed/past and such. homonyms aren't THAT tricky, people!
i need to go calm down...

I am definitely in agreement on this!
No. HECK, NO! And it isn't grammatical errors (which I fail on a regular basis), but simple common sense spelling, basic education. At some point (acquisition of texting) all the information so carefully drilled in during years of elementary school, somehow dribbles (or cascades) out the other end . . . drives me completely nuts every time. (And, no, teachers are not exempt, I see it all the time on 'highly respected' teacher forums, with absolutely no excuse).
I feel your pain. I have English as a second language, so I'm sometimes a little shaky on the finer points of grammar and style, and even I get mad at that.
That's the thing, _everyone_ who can _speak_ can figure out which homonym word is correct. It's not an educational or intelligence thing. It's a simple matter of actually thinking about what you're writing. And not thinking about what you're writing is disrespectful to the person you expect to read it.
i know, i know... and the worst are the repeat offenders, the ones who do it over and over and over...
But as I'm not a native english speaker/writer, and am currently in the progress of learning danish I, unfortunately (at the moment) make some strange mistakes I'd never do otherwise... Sorry if I made any just now...
