dear internet,
I have just started reading Dune by Frank Herbert; I've read sci-fi/fantasy all my life, but never got around to reading this particular book . . . though I've read plenty of other series (Lensman, Fahfrd & the Grey Mouser, Perelandra, everything by Bradbury & Asimov, Pern series by Anne McCaffrey, anything Ursula Le Guin, Madeleine L'Engle, etc)
Am I the only one who puts off reading some so-called classics of Sci-Fi because I worry they won't be as good as other people make them out to be?
(and who defines these classics anyway? - but that's a separate question, not really answerable here)
