does anyone else find it intensely nerve-wracking to start a phone conversation in the middle of a deadly silent office?

    Yes, I definitely would - luckily I work in a Customer Relations center where: 1) I don't have a choice - people call in and get me, and 2) it's rarely, if ever, quiet.
