dear internet,

you're at the dentist having one of those one-sided conversations with the hygienist in which you really can't respond given the circumstances but want to still appear as though you're paying attention. do you keep your eyes open so he/she knows you're conscious or do you politely close them during the whole process because his/her face is really really close to yours?
