dear internet,
There has been the discovery of human remains a few minutes distance travel time from where I live. They identified the remains as female, and it is clear that she met with a violent death (dismembered).
Over the last 2 years two women went missing in my town. There were pictures of suspects on every post, public announcements, press releases, - everything. Without meaning to I learned everything about these girls - what they were studying, their marital status, their religion, etc., due to the intense media coverage.
But because law enforcement here thinks the newly discovered remains belong to a prostitute that went missing last year, there has been barely a headline.
This bothers me.
I realize that I am way left of center, and a bit idealistic in my optimism regarding the human condition. But I really don't think one life is worth more than another. I'm not talking about potential social contributions made differentially by different people. I'm talking about people.
The prostitute that was killed...no one gives a damn.
I think that's whacked.
